Ian loves sharing his passion for visual storytelling through workshops and writing.
His articles and teaching explains technical concepts through the real-life stories of challenges he’s faced, while revealing high-tech (and low-tech) solutions he’s developed.
A former adjunct professor of Advanced Cinematography at UBC and a sessional instructor at SFU’s school for the Contemporary Arts, Ian also teaches workshops on topics including documentary and wildlife cinematography, camera movement and face lighting.
His articles on cinematography have been published in The New York Times, Canadian Cinematographer and Reel West magazines and he routinely volunteers on juries for the National Emmy News and Documentary awards.
